5 plumbing emergencies that can really put a damper on your day off in Rockhampton

Picture the scene: you wake up to sunlight streaming in through the curtains – and remember you’ve got an RDO today. Your partner’s at work, the kids are at school and daycare: you’ve got hours to yourself to do whatever you want. Maybe you’ll go some barra fishing on the Fitzroy River, or perhaps you could nip out to Yeppoon for a soak in the waterfront lagoon.

But! Once you get up, you realise something’s not quite right: aw no, there’s water everywhere! Here’s our top 5 plumbing emergencies that could really mess up a nice day in Rockhampton – unless you know a quality local plumber with an emergency service (hint, hint).

  1. Burst flexi hoses

Flexi hoses are fantastic for being able to easily deal with awkward or cramped spots. Like all pipes, however, they can burst due to cuts or abrasions, over-flexing at tight angles, exposure to sunlight or high temperatures that can cause cracking to the rubber tube.

While you can replace a flexi hose yourself, it’s best to call a plumber (ie, us) to fix it up. We can replace the hose quick smart and reduce the chance it’ll burst again.

  1. Blocked drains

The water won’t drain out of the kitchen sink and Mr Muscle ain’t cutting through the built-up grime in the drain. The next step is to use a plunger to create suction and dislodge the blockage – placing the plunger over the drain and pushing and pulling vigorously to create pressure that can break up the clog.

If this doesn’t work, the blockage is clearly more severe, and needs professional intervention. Give us a call and we’ll get it sorted quick sharp.

  1. Burst pipes

We’ve seen heaps of these with all the recent rain, and you’ll know when it happens – there’ll be water bloody everywhere! There’s not much you can do other than turn off your water supply to limit the damage, give us a call to fix it up ASAP, and call your home insurer.

  1. No hot water

You’ve jumped in the shower to freshen up: no matter how long you wait, the water’s still freezing. While you’re feeling pretty fresh, it’s clear the hot water tank’s bust. Call our emergency service and we’ll get there as soon as we can to fix it up – no matter what type of hot water system you have.

  1. Can you smell gas?

In this situation, all your water pipes are fine – but there’s a distinct smell of gas coming from somewhere. No messing around here – most importantly – if you feel anyone and/or any property is in harm’s way due to a gas leak, contact 000 immediately.

You should turn off all appliances, including your electrical appliances and pilot lights. Open all of your doors and windows to help with ventilation, but only if it is safe to do so. Shut off the main gas valve and call us immediately to locate the leak and repair it as soon as possible.
Water and gas emergencies don’t wait until Monday morning – and neither do we. Our local Yeppoon, Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast emergency teams are ready to respond promptly to resolve any and all urgent plumbing needs – and get you back to enjoying your day off. Get in touch today.
