What we know about the pipes in Mulambin
Mulambin is the flattest and lowest part of this stretch of coast, sitting beside the Causeway Lake, and that is the whole story for drainage here. Stormwater needs fall to work, and on flat ground beside tidal water there is very little of it. On a big rain that coincides with a high tide, the water simply has nowhere to go, so surface flooding here is about the tide as much as the rainfall. The second feature is who owns the houses. A large share of Mulambin is holiday houses and short-stay rentals rather than owner-occupied, which means faults get found by a guest at a bad time and reported to an owner who is somewhere else.
