What we know about the pipes in Park Avenue

Park Avenue is old enough that what is in the ground matters more than what is on the wall. Much of the suburb is post-war and 1950s to 1960s housing, high-set timber and lowset brick, and on houses of that vintage in Rockhampton we still find vitreous clay sewer lines in service. Clay pipe is jointed rather than welded, and every one of those joints is an invitation to a tree root. Park Avenue has mature street trees and mature backyard trees, which is exactly the combination that produces the classic call here: a drain that clears fine, then blocks again in six months, then again in five. Cutting the roots out treats the symptom. A camera down the line tells you whether the pipe itself has failed, and on a run of clay that has already been rodded a few times the honest answer is often relining or replacement rather than another clear. The water side is similar in age, with galvanised and early copper still turning up.

What goes wrong in Park Avenue

Tree roots in old vitreous clay sewer. It clears, then comes back, then comes back sooner. After that it is galvanised and early copper water lines reaching the end.

Access and parking in Park Avenue

Established streets with mature trees. High-set houses give good under-house access, which makes water line work far easier than it is on a slab.

That figure is a distance, not a promise about the clock. Our local emergency team is ready to respond promptly during all active business hours. Ring us and we will tell you what we can actually do and when.

Six services

Plumbing and gas services in Park Avenue

Six things, and the three at the top are what Park Avenue rings us about most. Every one of them is done by a licensed plumber and gas fitter, and the site gets cleaned up before we leave.

Blocked drains and maintenance in Park Avenue

Water coming back up through the plugholes, and the plunger has given up. Blocked dunnies, leaking taps, corroded pipework and water pressure that is either a dribble or a rumble. This is the bread and butter service call.

Hot water systems in Park Avenue

You turn on the tap and wait for it to warm up. And wait. And wait. We install energy efficient hot water systems and troubleshoot the one you already have. Instantaneous gas, solar and heat pump, plus repairs on whatever is out there now.

Bathroom and kitchen renovations in Park Avenue

Creating your dream bathroom, kitchen or laundry? The plumbing you cannot see is the part that ruins a renovation. We cover the water and the gas on the same job, so a kitchen with a gas cooktop takes one trade instead of two.

Everything else we cover in Park Avenue

Gas installation and gas fitting in Park Avenue

Make sure you are (safely) cooking with gas. Gas is the licensed, higher risk work a handyman cannot legally touch. Hot water systems, stovetops and ovens are the speciality, domestic and commercial, including commercial kitchens.

Backflow and TMV testing in Park Avenue

The test is annual, and the reminder never comes at a good time. Backflow valves stop contaminated water flowing back into the drinking supply. Thermostatic mixing valves blend hot and cold to a safe temperature so nobody gets scalded. Both need testing, and we test and repair on the spot.

What customers said about the work

Google reviews from across Yeppoon, Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast, quoted exactly as they were written.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Jason from Flowtek services for the installation of two new toilets. I cannot express enough how helpful and knowledgeable he was throughout the process. Unlike other plumbers who simply gave me a quote, Jason took the time to educate me on my purchases and ensure that I made informed decisions. He was prompt, reliable, and patiently addressed every question I had. It is evident that he takes great pride in his work and places a strong emphasis on providing exceptional customer service. I highly recommend Jason and Flowtek services for all your plumbing needs.

A big thanks to Jason from Flowtek Services who was able to fix a few much needed plumbing jobs around the house without a fuss. Efficient and reliable worker with old fashioned service. Highly recommended

These are customers' own words about their own jobs, published on our Google Business Profile and quoted here exactly as they wrote them, misspellings of our name included. They describe what happened on those days. They are not a promise about how quickly we can get to you.

Park Avenue questions we actually get asked

The drain has been cleared three times in two years. Why does it keep blocking?

On a Park Avenue property that pattern almost always means roots in an old clay sewer line, and the interval getting shorter each time means the pipe is losing the fight. Clearing it again will work, and it will work for less time than last time. A camera down the line will tell you whether you are looking at another clear, a reline, or a replacement, and that is worth knowing before you spend more on rodding.

Is galvanised water pipe still a problem in these houses?

We do still find it. Galvanised corrodes from the inside, so it narrows before it leaks, and the symptom is falling pressure and discoloured water rather than anything dramatic. If your house is that era and the pressure has quietly got worse over years, that is the likely reason.
